ISIS could today invade Jordan where more than 700,000 refugees from Iraq and Syria are in hiding after their homes were destroyed by the terror group.
The terror group is moving south from the Syrian city of Palmyra, which it conquered last week, and through the vast territory it controls along Jordan's border to launch an attack on the country, military sources have said.
And counter-terrorism experts predict Islamic State militants will continue to expand their territory westwards from Syria and Iraq by crossing into Jordan.
ISIS has also taken control of the Al-Waleed border crossing which connects Syria with Iraq, making an invasion 'inevitable', experts say.
The group seized the historic Syrian city of Palmyra - a UNESCO World Heritage site around 150 miles north of Jordan - and the strategically-important town of Al-Tanf, close to the Jordanian border.

ISIS troops began moving south from Palmyra towards the Jordanian border two days ago, military sources told the DEBKA news agency.
In Iraq, some terror groups expect the terror group to march on Iraq's capital Baghdad after taking the strategically important city of Ramadi just 60 miles west of it.
But if ISIS decides to move west into Jordan instead, refugee camps such as Ar Ruwayshid in the north-east of the country could be defenceless against an attack.
Most of Jordan's 736,000 refugees reside in urban areas further inland and the overwhelming majority of these migrants are from Syria, having already fled the destruction ISIS wreaked on their homes, according to official figures from the United Nations Refugee Agency.
They are again under threat from the terror group which is 'not hiding its intention to expand towards Jordan,' a counter-terrorism expert told Voice of Iraq.
Hassan Bu Haniya said: 'Fears and threats posed by ISIS for Jordan is real and is not simply analysis or a forecasted event.
'The organisation's policy is based on... areas dominated in Iraq and Syria and then expansion and invasion of other regions and countries that are not controlled by ISIS.'

Although the attack is by no means imminent, a move into Jordan reflects the terror group's natural instinct to expand its territory, according to the Director of International Security Studies at counter-terrorism think-tank RUSI.
Raffaello Pantucci told MailOnline: 'They [ISIS] see themselves as an expanding empire, not a static one.
'They seem to be expanding their territory which is in part down to pressure in other places but this is a very confident group which probably sees its operating territory as one that stretches into Jordan as well

'If you look at the history of ISIS, its feeding group the Islamic State of Iraq launched a major terrorist attack in Amman, Jordan, against western hotels there.
'Going back to its early days in Iraq when it announced itself as part of the insurgency [against US and UK military occupation] there back in 2003, they bombed the Jordanian embassy as one of their first targets.
'You're dealing with a group that's always been very interested in Jordan and they are likely to be pushing in that direction as part of the space they see themselves operating in.'
It would be very alarming if the jihadi group is moving large numbers towards the Jordanian border but the country is more prepared to deal with the insurgency than Iraq, according to a Senior Political Scientist at think-tank RAND.
Richard Brennan told MailOnline: 'The Jordanian army don't have the sectarian division, they're well equipped, they've been training for years and years. They're pilots are very good at attacking targets on the ground.

'It's worrisome that this is happening - it's not unsuspected - but one of the reasons the King of Jordan has prepared for this is because of the overwhelming number of refugees he has and also because he knew he was next.'

Middle East officials who gathered in Jordan for an economic summit this weekend called on the United States to play a greater military role in the war against Islamic State than the airstrikes it is currently carrying out on militant targets.
But President Barack Obama has remained cautious of involving America in yet another ground war in Iraq after only withdrawing combat troops at the end of 2011.
Iraq's forces today launch an official operation to prevent the militants taking more territory in Anbar province, before launching a counter-offensive to retake the city of Ramadi which was lost to ISIS on May 17.
Less than ten days after Islamic State captured the capital of Iraq's largest province - killing around 500 and displacing tens of thousands in the process - a mixture of security forces and militia groups are preparing to recapture it.

'The operation's goal is to liberate those regions between Salaheddin and Anbar and try to isolate the province of Anbar,' according to a spokesman for Popular Mobilisation, an umbrella group made up of Shi'ite militiamen and volunteers.
The government called in the Iranian-backed militia group and urged volunteers to take up arms after losing Ramadi, but some counter-terrorism experts believed this could result in an 'all-out sectarian war' with ISIS.
February, Islamic State released a barbaric video of a captured Jordanian pilot being burned alive.
Moaz Al-Kasasbeh parachuted into the Euphrates river after his plane was shot down by ISIS militants - who blamed him for 'burning houses' and 'killing babies' in airstrikes.
Even by the Islamic State's barbaric standards, the terror group's latest execution video has reached a truly depraved new low.
The horrendous 20-minute footage showed the helpless trapped inside a cage as he was set on fire.

A group of hackers threatened to carry out a cyber attack—dubbed “Message to America”— against unspecified targets in the United States at 2pm EST. Shortly after the deadline,  a video was released claiming the group had been hacked into the websites of Washington leaders, as well as Australian airports, but none were identified.
ISIS supporters calling themselves the Cyber Caliphate hacked into the Twitter account of the United States Central Command in January. And last month followers of the group defaced the website of Hobart Airport, the capital city of the state of Tasmania in southern Australia.
The video released after 2pm EST features a man wearing a hoodie and sitting before a laptop, with his face shielded. It was in Arabic with English subtitles and shared on ISIS forums. “We are the hackers of the Islamic State. The electronic war has not yet begun,” the voice said. “We observe all the movements you are making from your devices. Soon you will see how we control your electronic world.”
Along with the video, several tweets appeared under the hashtag #HellOfTheAmericanSystem

SYDNEY - Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott's chief business adviser has accused the United Nations of using debunked climate change science to lead a new world order, provocative claims made to coincide with a visit from the top UN climate negotiator.

Christiana Figueres, who heads the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, toured Australia this week, urging the country to move away from heavily polluting coal production.

Under Abbott's leadership, Australia has been reluctant to engage in global climate change politics, unsuccessfully attempting to keep the issue off the agenda of the Group of 20 Leaders' Summit in Brisbane last year.

Maurice Newman, the chairman of Abbott's business advisory council and a climate change skeptic, said the UN was using false models showing sustained temperature increases to end democracy and impose authoritarian rule.

"The real agenda is concentrated political authority," Newman wrote in an opinion piece published in The Australian newspaper on Friday. "Global warming is the hook.

"It's about a new world order under the control of the UN," he added. "It is opposed to capitalism and freedom and has made environmental catastrophism a household topic to achieve its objective."

Figueres used an address in Melbourne to urge Australia to move away from coal, the country's second-largest export, as the world grapples with global warming.

"Economic diversification will be a challenge that Australia faces," she said.

Abbott has described coal as "good for humanity" and the "foundation of prosperity" for the foreseeable future.

Figueres also urged Australia to play a leading role at the climate summit in Paris in December, a call unlikely to be heeded given Abbott's track record.

At the Brisbane G20 meeting, Abbott warned that the Paris summit would fail if world leaders decided to put cutting carbon emissions ahead of economic growth.

At home, Abbott, who in 2009 said the science behind climate change was "crap", repealed a tax on carbon pricing and abolished the independent Climate Commission advisory body.

Asked on the Canberra leg of her trip if the politics around renewable energy was as toxic elsewhere in the world, Figueres said: "No. At the global level what we see is increased participation of renewables, increased investment in renewables, increased excitement about renewables."

Abbott's office and the United Nations did not immediately respond to requests for comment

Australian PM's adviser says UN using climate change for ‘new world order’

And while the FBI did not have any immediate comments or speculation on the reason behind the attack, according to the Site intel group, overnight it was Islamic State supporters who took "credit" for the bungled shooting attack.
Today we learn that indeed, ISIS has officially claimed responsibility. Here’s more from CNN:
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack outside the Prophet Mohammed cartoon contest in Garland, Texas -- and warned of more attacks to come

In a broadcast on its official radio channel Tuesday, the group said two Al Khilafa soldiers attacked the event. Al Khilafa is how ISIS refers to its soldiers.

The two gunmen, Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, wounded a security guard before police shot and killed them.

The ISIS radio announcer also referred to Simpson and Soofi as the terror group's "brothers."

While ISIS claimed responsibility two days after the Sunday attack, there was no immediate indication that the terror group in Iraq and Syria actually had contact with Simpson or Soofi, who both lived in Phoenix.
CNN then makes the very astute observation that there appear to have been very subtle “clues” that one of the shooters was an ISIS sympathizer — clues like creating a Twitter hashtag in hopes your attack will become a trending topic, tweeting out your own goodbye message to the world, and pledging allegiance to the leader of ISIS:
U.S. authorities have said they are investigating whether Sunday's shooting has any link to international terrorism. But there are clues that one of the gunmen was an ISIS sympathizer. Moments before the attack, Simpson posted an ominous tweet with the hashtag #texasattack: "May Allah accept us as mujahideen."

The tweet also said he and his fellow attacker had pledged allegiance to "Amirul Mu'mineen," which means "the leader of the faithful." CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank said that likely refers to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
This of course marks the first attack claimed by ISIS on U.S. soil. Here’s a recap of events from Al Arabiya:
"Two of the soldiers of the caliphate executed an attack on an art exhibit in Garland, Texas, and this exhibit was portraying negative pictures of the Prophet Mohammed," the jihadist group said.

It was the first time ISIS claimed to have carried out an attack in the U.S.

Police said two men drove up to the conference center Sunday in Garland, Texas, where the right-wing American Freedom Defense Initiative was organizing the controversial cartoon contest, and began shooting at a security guard.

Garland police officers then shot and killed both men.

According to U.S. media reports, the two suspected jihadists were Elton Simpson, 31, and Nadir Soofi, 34, who shared an apartment in Phoenix, Arizona.

Simpson was being investigated by the FBI over alleged plans to travel to Somalia to wage holy war, court records show.
As mentioned above, the two men were Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, shown here:

From The Washington Post on Simpson:
Simpson was born in Illinois and converted to Islam at a young age, court documents show. The government began investigating him in 2006, recording conversations between him and a paid informant.

In May 2009, according a federal court document, Simpson told an FBI informant: “It’s time to go to Somalia, brother.” He added: “It’s time. I’m tellin’ you man. We gonna make it to the battlefield…it’s time to roll.”

Simpson was arrested by the FBI in January 2010 after a lengthy investigation. He was charged with lying to agents in connection with terrorism. Authorities suspected he was trying to fly to Somalia, but Simpson claimed at the time he had intended to travel to South Africa to go to school and study Islam there.

Following a bench trial, a judge dropped the terrorism enhancement, citing insufficient evidence.
And from CNN about both men:
In 2011, Simpson was convicted of making a false statement involving international and domestic terrorism.

Prosecutors said he told FBI agents that he had not discussed traveling to Somalia to engage in "violent jihad" -- when, in fact, he had, according to an indictment.

Simpson was sentenced to three years of probation, court records show...

Soofi was born in Garland and spent the first three years of his life there, his mother said, according to The Dallas Morning News.

"He was raised in a normal American fashion," Sharon Soofi said. "Yes, he was very politically involved with the Middle East. Just aware of what's going on. I don't know if something snapped or if Elton Simpson was just working on him."

Sharon Soofi also said her son had an 8-year-old boy whom he adored.

"He put his son above everything," she said. "The hard thing to comprehend is why he would do this and leave an 8-year-old son behind."

Soofi's father is Pakistani, and his mother is American, a source with knowledge of the family told CNN.

After his parents divorced, Soofi and his brother moved to Pakistan to live with their father and stepmother, the source said.

In the 1990s, Soofi attended a prestigious private school in Islamabad. The source added that the boys left abruptly at some point, ostensibly to go live with their mother.
And one Chevy Cobalt was harmed in the making of this story...
Their neighbors in Phoenix said they had no clue about what they were going to do.

Ariel Whitlock was actually about to buy a car from Simpson. She was horrified to see the same black Chevrolet Cobalt, damaged from the attack, on the news.

"I'm getting goose bumps thinking about it right now just because I wanted to buy that car," she told CNN's Kyung Lah. "On the news, I see it, it's just blown up. I'm like, 'I was going to purchase that car.'"
*  *  *
Here is the statement from ISIS in which the group warns of further attacks...
This fair was conducting a competition of offensive cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. The brothers were killed during an exchange of fire, and we ask God to welcome them into heaven. And we say to America... that what is coming is worse and more bitter, and you will see from the soldiers of the Islamic State what ill will come.
...which ends with the following ominous passage and very accurate — if a bit tautological — observation that the future is indeed "right around the corner"...
The Islamic State soldiers will inflict harm on you with the grace of God. The future is just around the corner.
As we said on Monday, if indeed ISIS has found its way to the US, whether for pure provocation, false flag or any other "purposes" of inciting terrorist acts, this will likely be just the first of (many) other attacks which will see the successor of al Qaeda take responsibility for.

A new warning from a purported American jihadist details specific levels of ISIS fighters in the U.S. — as well as targeted states — in the wake of the attack in Garland, Texas.
ISIS’ official operations bulletin as well as their radio station Al-Bayan claimed responsibility for the attack on the “derisive cartoons” competition by Phoenix roommates Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi. Simpson was flagged by the FBI in 2010 for trying to join jihad in Somalia and more recently for tweeting on behalf of the Islamic State. He tweeted about the attack before it happened and praise for his involvement — and additional oblique threats of attacks in the U.S. — spread quickly among ISIS tweeps.
This new warning — posted on a file-sharing site accompanied by a large ISIS flag — is signed by “Abu Ibrahim Al Ameriki.” It’s not know if this is the same American believed to have joined an Islamic Jihad group in Pakistan several years ago; little is known about that jihadist who bears the same name, but he has done propaganda videos before.
“The attack by the Islamic State in America is only the beginning of our efforts to establish a wiliyah [province] in the heart of our enemy. Our aim was the khanzeer Pamela Geller and to show her that we don’t care what land she hides in or what sky shields her; we will send all our Lions to achieve her slaughter,” the message to “brothers and sisters fighting for the Sake of Allah” states.
“This will heal the hearts of our brothers and disperse the ones behind her. To those who protect her: this will be your only warning of housing this woman and her circus show. Everyone who houses her events, gives her a platform to spill her filth are legitimate targets. We have been watching closely who was present at this event and the shooter of our brothers. We knew that the target was protected. Our intention was to show how easy we give our lives for the Sake of Allah.”
The message says ISIS has stationed “71 trained soldiers in 15 different states ready at our word to attack any target we desire.”
“Out of the 71 trained soldiers 23 have signed up for missions like Sunday, We are increasing in number bithnillah. Of the 15 states, 5 we will name… Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, California, and Michigan,” the posting continues. “The disbelievers who shot our brothers think that you killed someone untrained, nay, they gave you their bodies in plain view because we were watching.”
“The next six months will be interesting, To our Amir Al Mu’mineen make dua for us and continue your reign, May Allah enoble your face,” it concludes, using an honorific title for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Titled “The New Era,” the message was tweeted by a user who describes him or herself as “stuck in the lands of the kufr,” with a photo of an ISIS flag and a residential suburban neighborhood in the background.
Simpson tweeted about half an hour before the Garland attack, “The bro with me and myself have given bay’ah to Amirul Mu’mineen. May Allah accept us as mujahideen. Make dua #texasattack.”
White House press secretary Josh Earnest acknowledged today that Garland was “what appears to be an attempted terrorist attack.”
